Framework agreement signed on cooperation between the French Armed Forces Medical Service (SSA) and the French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN)

Framework agreement signed on cooperation between the French Armed Forces Medical Service (SSA) and the French Institute for Radiological Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN)

On 26 September 2007, Bernard Lafont, the Médecin Général des Armées (Chief Medical Officer for the Armed Forces) and Director of the SSA, and Jacques Repussard, Director General of IRSN, signed a framework agreement on cooperation.
In a bid to improve the organisation of emergency response operations and the treatment of people in the event of a radiological or nuclear incident or accident, SSA and IRSN have decided to cooperate and pool resources.

IRSN barometer 2007: risks and safety as perceived by the French

According to the IRSN barometer 2007, the French now place environmental concerns above insecurity and just below unemployment and poverty on their list of priority issues. Every year, the survey reflects public opinion as to how serious certain risks are considered to be, confidence in the measures taken by the authorities to protect the population and the credibility rating of information on hazards. This year's barometer confirms how demanding the French are of scientific experts, who they expect to be open and transparent.

IRSN certification

The IRSN Quality Management system was recently certified as complying with the requirements of the ISO 9001 standards, version 2000.
The certification applies to all our activities (expert assessment, research and work relating to nuclear safety, radiation protection and the control of sensitive materials) and centres and is valid until 10 July 2010.

Third assignment for IRSN at the Radiotherapy Department of Jean Monnet Hospital in Epinal

Following the recent discovery of another series of radiotherapy incidents at Jean Monnet Hospital in Epinal, which probably occurred repeatedly between 1989 and 2000, the French Minister of Health, Youth and Sport, Roselyne Bachelot-Narquin, has asked IRSN to assess the possible clinical impact on patients treated during that period.
